Therapedic Mattress: A Guide to Buying a Therapedic Bed or Mattress

A therapedic mattress is a foam mattress that offers the best support and comfort for your back and body. When buying a therapedic mattress, you’re making an investment into your health for many years to come. However, they’re not for everyone.

For some answers to commonly asked questions about therapedic beds and foam mattresses, keep reading.

How Long Will It Take To Get Used To?

Because therapedic mattresses differ from your standard mattress, and differ a lot from a waterbed, it can take a little getting used to. Expect a few nights of difficult sleep as you get used to the feeling of sleeping on a therapedic memory foam mattress.

However, after a couple of weeks, most customers find they enjoy the new fit and the overall feel of the foam mattress.

Also, be aware that when you first receive your mattress there is likely to be a strong smell that is associated with the foam. This is not unbearable and like a new car smell, it will fade with time. Give it a few days to a few weeks and you’ll no longer be able to notice the smell.

How Will It Save Me Money?

A lot of people steer away from the therapedic mattress because of its seemingly high cost. However, in the long run it can actually save you money.

The concept of a mattress saving you money is based on the idea that sleeping on a mattress that properly supports your back means less pain and less visits to the chiropractor. It will also save you money on painkillers and will give you a better quality of life.

Do They Work?

For most people, the answer is - yes they do. There have been thousands of people sleeping on therapedic mattresses and their positive reports prove that they offer a better night sleep and more support than any other standard mattress.

That said, some sleepers find them too cushiony and too adaptive to room temperature. In cold rooms, a foam mattress can become hard and uncomfortable and in hot rooms, they can get soft and “squishy.” Again, they work for most sleepers, but not everyone.

How Do They Work?

Therapedic mattresses use what is called ‘memory foam’ which was originally developed by NASA to reduce the stress of gravity on astronauts during launch.

The foam slowly conforms to every contour of your form and evenly distributes the weight in your body. This increases circulation to your aching muscles and helps relieve pressure and stress offering a better nights sleep.

Making the move from a regular mattress or waterbed over to a therapedic mattress can be a difficult one. However, in the long run it’s typically worthwhile.
