Mattress & Bed Tips :: Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattresses Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattresses: Fire Safety Ratings for Serta Perfect Sleeper Beds and MattressesSerta Perfect Sleeper Mattresses are made by Serta, a mattress and bedding brand leader based in the United States. The Perfect Sleeper is Serta’s basic model, but the company also makes its Perfect Day collection and the upscale Vera Wang by Serta mattresses. Like all mattresses and bedding companies, they’re held to strict standards for flammability and flame retardant technology. To learn how Serta and the Perfect Sleeper mattresses measure up in terms of fire safety, keep reading. About Serta Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses are fairly basic, but also very popular. They’re used in hotel chains like Hilton, Marriott, Intercontinental and Bellagio hotels. Serta operates 24 US plants and 4 Canadian plants, manufacturing all their Serta Perfect Sleeper sets in North America. Serta has its headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Serta Perfect Sleeper Fire Safety Four years ago, Serta launched its FireBlocker system, an innovative new way of looking at flame retardant technology. Because most home fires start in the bedroom, Serta puts a strong focus on its flame retardant technology and features. A number of flame retardant products used in mattresses were designed to resist combustion when exposed to smoldering heat. However, many of the materials used were actually quite flammable when exposed to open flames like lighters, candles or matches. Because of that, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission introduced the Mattress Open Flame Standard in July 2007. Serta had already introduced its FireBlocker system in 2005, two years ahead of schedule and ahead of legislation. Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses not only meet national standards, they exceed them. How Serta’s FireBlocker Technology Works Every one of the Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses and box springs are manufactured using FireBlocker, which is a fire barrier system made from Serta’s proprietary blend of synthetic and natural fibers. This fiber blend is designed to isolate a fire, limit its spread and slow it down dramatically. That extra time gives individuals and families a chance to escape, call for help or put out a smoldering fire. What You Should Know Before Purchasing a Mattress If you’re purchasing a mattress soon, make sure you look for the CPSC label that designates a mattress complies with the new national standards for flammability. Any mattress made before July 2007 may not comply with this standard, so check carefully. While all Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses made after 2005 come equipped with FireBlocking technology, the CPSC tag indicating this won’t appear on models made before July 2007. Remember, over 1400 deaths every year are caused by bedroom fires. Help keep your family safe by buying a flame retardant mattress like the Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses, which are now sold with FireBlocker technology.
