Mattress & Bed Tips :: Mattress Giant Mattress Giant: A Review of the Cristina Saralequi Mattress Giant MattressesMattress Giant, the country’s fifth-biggest mattress retailer, recently launched a line of mattresses endorsed and designed in part by Cristina Saralegui. Saralegui is the popular host of the show “El Show de Cristina” (the Cristina Show), the biggest Spanish-speaking talk show program on television today. The Mattress Giant collection is called Casa Cristina and has been rolled out at 360 stores. So far, it’s been extremely popular, but how do these mattresses measure up? Are they affordable? Are they well made? Are they worth the cost? For the answers to these questions and a full review of the Casa Cristina mattress line, keep reading. Green Features of the Mattress Giant Product The Encanto and Esencia mattresses are hypoallergenic, a major selling feature for families who suffer from allergy problems. The coverings are breathable and made from 100% natural cashmere, bamboo and silk. The Esencia line even features covers that contain aloe, a plant believed to have antibacterial properties. The mattresses are actually manufactured by Lady Americana under their Eco-Comfort line, an initiative designed to minimize the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life span. In short, the Casa Cristina mattresses score fairly high when it comes to environmental sustainability. Prices The Esencia line of mattresses typically retail for around $1600 to $1700 for a matching, Queen-sized set. While this is comparable to other Lady Americana brands, it can still put a significant dent in the average family’s savings. For that price, most buyers would be better off waiting until this mattress line goes on sale. Luckily, Mattress Giant is the kind of retailer that can’t let a national holiday pass without holding some kind of sale. So, while paying full price is definitely not recommended, these are great value mattresses if you can get them for closer to the $1000 to $1200 range. Customer Service Mattress Giant is a massive, national retailer and with that you get both your ups and downs. They’re able to offer some seriously discounted product, but you may not always get the personalized service that you’re used to with a locally-run business. In addition, Mattress Giant is staffed predominantly by commission-based sales reps. While these sales clerks are only trying to do their job, the experience of being pressured and cajoled into a sale is often an unpleasant one. The Final Word These are great mattresses. They’re well made and manufactured using environmentally sustainable methods. There are only two major drawbacks, the sticker price is way too high and the sales staff at Mattress Giant are too pushy. So, plan to buy during a great sale and go in there knowing exactly what you want and how much you’re willing to pay. You’ll find your shopping and negotiations will go a lot smoother.
