Heated Mattress Pads: Staying Warm with Heated Mattress Pads

Heated mattress pads are a real comfort during cold nights.

Sometimes your comforter or duvet just doesn't provide enough warmth, and not even fleece sheets can give you the cozy comfort you are looking for, and heated mattress pads are the only thing that can lull you into a deep, warm slumber.

Pads vs. Blankets

Electric blankets are different than heated mattress pads. Blankets are meant to be portable and can be plugged in where ever you are sitting and used like a regular blanket.

Heated mattress pads are meant to be put on your bed, on top of the mattress and under your fitted sheet. You turn on heated mattress pads fifteen minutes before you go to bed so your bed is toasty warm when you get into it.

Unlike electric blankets, heated mattress pads don't move around and you are guaranteed warmth throughout the night no matter how much you toss and turn. But you probably won't toss and turn as much when you are in your warm little cocoon.

Staying Warm

You need to warm up heated mattress pads before getting into bed to get the best use out of them.

You should make sure it is on fifteen minutes before you go to bed, but you could even set it around a half hour beforehand and then check to see if your bed is warm enough.

Once your bed is warm, you turn either turn off or reduce the heat for the rest of the night. Once your bed is warmed up and you are in it, your body and your blankets should keep the temperature at a place where you like it.

Cost

Heated mattress pads are going to cost you more than a simple blanket or comforter. There's just no way around that. But if you have a hard time sleeping because it's cold in your house, it's worth the money.

Whatever you pay for heated mattress pads, make sure you are getting something good quality. You want it to be thick enough that you can't feel the heating coils so it is comfortable. After all, you'll be laying down on your heated mattress pad every night.

Other Uses

The use for heated mattress pads doesn't just begin and end with making your bed toasty warm, they are also a helpful medical aid. If you have sore muscles or a bad back, a heated mattress pad can really bring relief.
